I am first, and foremostly a painter who works in an abstract practice, which has become apparent in my recent work. I am greatly inspired by the Abstract-Expressionist movement and how the artists threw themselves into their work getting actively involved with their paintings, abandoning original painting traditions and also showing emotion through brush strokes, creating an expression rather than trying to replicate something. My main interest is restricting the control I have on application whether it be through drawing, in which I use sticks and ink, or recently through painting. In my current work I have been exploring how paint makes it's way down the paper in a series of fluid like 'drip' paintings. I have loaded the paper with paint at a point then placed it upright to allow the paint to drift, blend and drip down the page without me being able to control what colours, shapes, or somewhat where the paint goes in it's journey. Although I like not knowing what’s going to happen with each piece and the fact two pieces will ever, other than colour, be the same.
